Calvin Johnson to Lead the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff

The University of Arkansas System has announced that on May 29 Calvin Johnson will assume the post of interim chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He will serve in the post until a permanent replacement is found for retiring chancellor Lawrence A. Davis.

Calvin Johnson currently serves as a member of the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a post he will relinquish before becoming interim chancellor. Dr. Johnson is the former dean of the College of Education at the university. He also served as chair of the department of teacher education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Johnson served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1998 to 2004.

Dr. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a doctorate in adult education and public school administration from Kansas State University.

Dr. Johnson stated that he would not be a candidate for the post of chancellor on a permanent basis.
