The magazine U.S. News and World Report recently issued its annual rankings of the best colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to its rankings of the best national universities and liberal arts colleges, the magazine ranks regional colleges and universities and also the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities.
As was the case last year, Spelman College in Atlanta was ranked as the nation’s best HBCU. Howard University in Washington, D.C., and Hampton University in Virginia held the second and third spots. In last year’s rankings, Morehouse College in Atlanta was rated third and Hampton University was fourth. This year, Morehouse dropped to fourth as Hampton moved up one position. As was the case for the past two years Tuskegee University in Alabama held the fifth spot.
Rounding out the top 10 positions are:
6. Xavier University (New Orleans, Louisiana)
7. Fisk University (Nashville, Tennessee)
8. Claflin University (Orangeburg, South Carolina)
9. North Carolina A&T State University (Greensboro, North Carolina)
10. Florida A&M University (Tallahassee, Florida)
Florida A&M University dropped two positions to tenth while Claflin University and North Carolina A&T State University both moved up one spot in the rankings.
HBCUs do not need to be validated by US News & World Report in any capacity with their flawed college rankings. That said, I am most confident the neoliberal thinking so-called educated Black administrators and the like will disagree.
Those in the top spots would agree that is a free recruiting tool!
What I am waiting for now is the ranking of this country’s white universities, published in Ebony.
Re: SLWest;
One should not expect the Black consumerist magazine(Ebony) to rank HWCUs (Historically White Colleges and Universities) in any capacity because they’re more concerned about showing light and dark skinned Blacks donning White name brand clothes, consuming expensive spirits, or sitting in or near an expensive automobile in an effort to make it appear as if the Black community ‘has arrived’. Further, Ebony magazine is nothing more than a visual smorgasbord of American materialism with Black face. Enough about Ebony magazine. By the way, when was the last time Glamour, Elle’, Allure, or Women’s Day published rankings of HWCUs?
Really! Is that all you can offer?
