T. Ramon Stuart Named Provost at Fort Valley State University in Georgia

stuartPaul Jones, president of Fort Valley State University in Georgia, announced the promotion of T. Ramon Stuart to be the next provost and vice president for academic affairs of the university. He will become provost on May 16.

Dr. Stuart has been serving as associate provost and associate vice president for academic affairs. Before joining the staff at Fort Valley State University, Dr. Stuart served on the faculty at West Virginia State Community and Technical College, where he was elected president of the Faculty Senate.

Dr. Stuart holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University. He earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the College of Education at Ohio University.

Black Matriculants Are Down at U.S. Medical Schools

In 2024, the share of Black applicants to U.S. medical schools increased by 2.8 percent from 2023. However, the share of Black medical school matriculants decreased by 11.6 percent. Notably, there has been year-over-year progress in overall Black medical school representation, which has risen to from 7.9 percent in 2017 to 10.3 percent in 2024.
