The New Leader of Kentucky State University

kentucky-stateLast week, a JBHE post reported the resignation of Raymond M. Burse as president of Kentucky State University in Frankfort. President Burse had led the university for just two years.

Now, the board of regents of Kentucky State University, has announced the appointment of Aaron Thompson as interim president of the historically Black university. He had been serving as executive vice president for the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. He will take a leave of absence from that post to lead Kentucky State while a national search is conducted to select a permanent president of the university.

Aaron-ThompsonDr. Thompson is the co-author of the book Black Men and Divorce (Sage Publications, 1999). He has also co-authored or co-edited several college textbooks including Thriving in College and Beyond: Research-Based Strategies for Academic Success and Personal Development (Kendall Hunt Publishing, 3rd edition, 2013).

President Thompson is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, where he majored in political science and sociology. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Kentucky.
