Two African American Women Faculty Members Assigned New Duties

stanlie_jamesStanlie James, a professor in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University will be taking on new duties as vice provost for inclusion and diversity engagement. Professor James, who has been at Arizona State for 10 years, has a joint appointment in the Women and Gender Studies program.

Dr. James is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver.

DrEllenDSmileyEllen D. Smiley, dean of the Earl Lester Cole Honors College at Grambling State University in Louisiana, was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at the university. She will remain dean of the Honors College while a search for a permanent provost is conducted.

Dr. Smiley joined the faculty at Grambling State University in 1992. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Grambling State University and earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
