Adia Harvey Wingfield to Lead the Sociologists for Women in Society

Adia Harvey Wingfield, a professor of sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, was named president-elect of the Sociologists for Women in Society, an organization dedicated to improving the social position of women through feminist sociological research and writing. Dr. Wingfield will begin a one-year term as president-elect in February. A year later, she will become president of the organization.

After earning her doctorate, Dr. Wingfield began her academic career as an assistant professor of sociology at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. In 2006, she joined the faculty at Georgia State University. Dr. Wingfield was promoted to associate professor in 2012. She was appointed professor of sociology at Washington University in 2015.

Dr. Wingfield is the author of No More Invisible Man: Race and Gender in Men’s Work (Temple University Press, 2013). Professor Wingfield is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
