The Next President of Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania

The board of trustees of Delaware County Community College in Media, Pennsylvania, has selected L. Joy Gates Black as the educational institution’s next president. She will take office on July 1.

Delaware County Community College, located west of Philadelphia, enrolls nearly 12,000 students. African Americans are 29 percent of the student body.

Dr. Gates Black has been serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Tarrant County College District in Fort Worth, Texas. She joined the staff at Tarrant County College in 2010. Earlier, Dr. Gates Black served in administrative roles at community colleges in Texas, California, and Massachusetts.

A native of Dayton, Texas, Dr. Gates Black is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She holds a master’s degree in education from Cambridge College in Massachusetts. She holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
