Five African Americans Selected for Leadership Positions at Alcorn State University

Marcus Ward has been promoted to senior vice president of institutional advancement. He currently serves as vice president of institutional advancement and director of the Alcorn State University Foundation, Inc. Over the past 15 years, his leadership has resulted in a 450 percent growth rate in assets and funds for the HBCU.

Dr. Ward is an alumnus of Alcorn State University, where he majored in political science. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University in New York and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Edward Rice II has been named vice president of student affairs and enrollment management. He has over three decades of higher education experience, including service as vice president of student services and enrollment at Mississippi Delta Community College and as vice chancellor for student services and enrollment management at Southern Arkansas University Tech.

After receiving his associate’s degree at Mississippi Delta Community College, Dr. Rice completed his bachelor’s degree in public administration from Mississippi State University. He earned a master’s degree in educational administration and athletic administration at Alcorn State University before returning to Mississippi State University to complete a doctorate in educational leadership.

Karen Shedrick has been promoted to chief of staff and executive assistant to the president. She has been a member of the university’s Office of the President since 1988. Over her long tenure, she has provided administrative, hospitality, and organizational support to 13 presidents.

Shedrick holds a bachelor’s degree in secretarial science and a master’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in business education from Alcorn State University.

Lucreta Tribune has been selected to serve as interim chief financial officer and vice president of finance, administrative services, and operations. She first joined the Alcorn community in 2022 as director of accounting, and was promoted to her current role as associate vice president of finance last summer.

A two-time HBCU graduate, Tribune holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Alcorn State University and a master of professional accountancy degree from Jackson State University.

Maxine Greenleaf has been appointed interim vice president of marketing and communication. She has extensive experiencing overseeing communications at HBCUs, previously holding key leadership roles with Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, and Mississippi Valley State University.

Greenleaf holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Mississippi Valley State University and a master’s degree in mass communication and journalism from Kent State University in Ohio. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education from the University of Mississippi.
