New Faculty Appointments for Four Black Scholars

Harold Dean Trulear has been named director of the Black Congregations Resource Center at the Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, D.C. He has been an associate professor of applied theology at the School of Divinity for nearly two decades. Prior to joining the Howard University faculty, he held theology teaching appointments with Eastern University, Yale University, Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Geneva College, and Jersey City State College.

Dr. Trulear is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he double-majored in music and religion. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in religion and society from Drew University in New Jersey.

Kimberly D. Bailey has been appointed associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Law at the University of Cincinnati. She has been a professor of law with the university since 2023. Earlier in her career, she held teaching appointments with Chicago-Kent College of Law and the University of Houston.

Bailey holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a juris doctorate from the University of Michigan.

Isis Settles has been named a University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor at the University of Michigan for her contributions to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in her research and teaching. She joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2016 and currently serves as a professor of psychology, Afroamerican and African studies, and women’s and gender studies. She also serves as associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion for the university’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.

Dr. Settles earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Harvard University. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in personality psychology from the University of Michigan.

Mabel O. Wilson has been appointed chair of the African American and African diaspora studies department at Columbia University. Since 2007, she has taught courses on the critical studies of architecture at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. She currently holds the title of Nancy and George Rupp Professor of Architecture and directs the graduate school’s Global Africa Lab.

Dr. Wilson holds a master’s degree in architecture from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in American studies from New York University.
