Lucious Edwards, former faculty member at Virginia State University, passed away on August 24. He was 80 years old.
For nearly four decades, Edwards served as an adjunct professor of history and the university archivist at Virginia State University, a historically Black institution in Petersburg, Virginia. During his long career, he focused his scholarship around African American history in Virginia. Outside of his position at VSU, he was a consultant for the archives of the University of Iloin in Nigeria and chair of the Mid-Atlanta Regional Archives Conference.
Edwards received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in history from Virginia State University. Earlier this year, VSU awarded him an honorary doctorate in humane letters.
