Marilyn Lillith Minus, former professor at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on August 6. She was 46 years old.
In 2010, Dr. Minus joined the Northeastern University faculty as an assistant professor in the department of mechanical and industrial engineering. She was promoted to associate professor in 2015, and again to full professor in 2018. She served as her department’s associate chair for graduate and research affairs for two years, before her promotion to department chair in 2020. Earlier this year, she stepped away from Northeastern to become senior vice president and chief technology officer for Hexcel, a carbon fiber manufacturing company.
Dr. Minus’ scholarly research centered around polymer-based nano-carbon composites. She was a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Mechanical Engineers and the American Chemical Society.
A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Dr. Minus received her bachelor’s degree in textile and fiber engineering and her Ph.D. in polymer, textile, and fiber engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
