Two Scholars Selected for Dean Appointments at HBCUs

Obadiah M. Njue has been selected to serve as interim dean and director for the School of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

In 2005, Dr. Njue joined the UAPB community as an extension horticulture specialist. Over the past two decades, he has held several leadership roles with the university, including chair of the department of agriculture, interim director of the Regulatory Science Center of Excellence, and interim assistant dean for extension. Currently, he serves as a full professor and assistant dean for extension and outreach.

Dr. Njue holds a doctorate in agriculture from Mississippi State University.

LaVie Leasure has been appointed acting associate provost of undergraduate education and dean of the university college at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

Dr. Leasure first joined the WSSU faculty in 2006. Throughout her nearly two-decades-long tenure WSSU, she has held several leadership roles including associate dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education, department chair for interdisciplinary studies, and distance learning coordinator for the department of liberal studies.

Dr. Leasure holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Bennett College in North Carolina, a master’s degree in English and Afro-American literature from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Ph.D. in literary criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
