James-Christian Blockwood Named President of the National Academy of Public Administration

James-Christian Blockwood, an adjunct professor at Syracuse University, has been named president and chief executive officer of the National Academy of Public Administration. He will assume his new role on January 1.

For the past two years, Blockwood has taught in the Washington, D.C. program within Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Administration. In his academic work, he specializes in national security, international relations, leadership and management, and strategic planning and foresight. He also serves as executive vice president of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit that strives to improve government and inspire people to serve.

Prior to his role with Syracuse University, Blockwood had an extensive career in public service. His prior positions include managing director at the U.S. Government Accountability Office, director in the Office of Policy and Planning at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, deputy director in the Office of International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and intelligence officer at the U.S. Department of Defense.

Blockwood is a graduate of Tufts University in Massachusetts, where he majored in international relations. He holds a master’s degree in intelligence from the National Defense Intelligence College, as well as a master’s degree in government and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
