Two Black Men Appointed to Advancement Leadership Roles at Winston-Salem State University

Kevan Turman has been named vice chancellor for university advancement. He comes to Winston-Salem State University from another HBCU, Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. He held several key administrative roles at the university, including director of alumni relations, special assistant to the president, associate vice president for advancement, campaign manager, and interim vice president of institutional advancement.

Turman is a two-time graduate of Lincoln University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education and his master’s degree in reading.

John D. Kirby, Jr. has been named assistant vice chancellor for advancement. He most recently served as an area development director with the United Negro College Fund. Earlier in his career, he served as executive director of the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Kirby holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Temple University in Philadelphia and an executive master of public health degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
