Winston-Salem State University to Increase Campus Acreage by One-Third

The Winston-Salem State University Foundation has recently acquired 42 acres of land to expand the university’s campus. The property, purchased for $7.5 million, is located less than 3 miles away from the HBCU’s existing 110-acre main campus in downtown Winston-Salem.

There are currently 11 residential apartments located on the property that will be repurposed into housing options for both graduate and undergraduate students. The leases of the apartments’ existing residents will be honored to ensure the local community is supported during the transition.

“We will thoroughly explore optimal utilization of this property, which may include student housing or other academic space needs,” said Bonita Brown, chancellor of Winston-Salem State University. “We want to ensure we leverage this property in a way that best serves the long-term needs and growth of the college.”
