North Carolina Central University Partners With Macy’s to Enhance Career Development for Students

The Career and Professional Development Center at historically Black North Carolina Central University has recently established a new partnership with Macy’s to provide professional development and employment opportunities for students.

As part of their collaboration, Macy’s will supply new professional attire resources for The Clutch Closet, the HBCU’s professional clothing closet. Additionally, Macy’s has provided five NCCU students with seasonal employment at a local store in Durham. Going forward, NCCU and Macy’s plan to expand their partnership through discounted shopping events, internship and job opportunities, payroll deduction benefits for NCCU employees, professional development workshops, and career fairs.

Jamal Bowden, assistant director of the Career and Professional Development Center, was the key leader in establishing this collaboration with Macy’s. He plans to develop similar partnerships with organizations in various sectors to provide NCCU students with job-shadowing, industry-specific workshops, and exclusive networking events.

“Career growth is a journey,” said Bowden. “If things don’t fall into place right away, keep honing your skills, seeking opportunities, and networking — success will follow with persistence.”
