Southern University and A&M College, a historically Black higher education institution in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has launched a new bachelor’s degree program in digital media arts.
Housed within the HBCU’s College of Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies, the new program is a collaborative effort between the department of visual and performing arts and the department of mass communication. Students who enroll in the program will gain the necessary creative and technical skills to thrive in the digital media industry. The degree program includes five areas of concentration: digital screen arts productions, digital performance fusion, visual arts and motion graphics, digital sports production, and recording arts.
“This new program presents an exciting opportunity for students to cultivate their creative and technical abilities within a cutting-edge field,” said Darrell Roberson, co-director of digital media arts and an adjunct professor of mass communication. “We are confident that our graduates will be well-equipped to make significant contributions to the expanding digital media landscape.”
The bachelor’s degree program in digital media arts will be available to students beginning in the upcoming fall 2025 semester.
