A Trio of New Provosts at HBCUs

Catherine Edmonds has been named interim provost of North Carolina A&T State University.

With an extensive background in higher education leadership, Dr. Edmonds has previously served as interim chancellor of Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina and as chief of staff at North Carolina Central University. She also has experience in the public sector and K-12 settings, including stints as deputy superintendent of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, superintendent of Bertie County Schools, and superintendent of Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public Schools.

Dr. Edmonds is an alumna of North Carolina A&T State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics education. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from North Carolina State University.

A. Clifton Myles has been appointed provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Talladega College in Alabama.

Dr. Myles brings over three decades of academic and administrative experience to his new role. Throughout his career, he has held key student affairs and faculty positions with HBCUs in South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Kentucky. Most recently, he was provost and executive vice president at Denmark Technical College, a historically Black community college in South Carolina. Additionally, he is the founder of HBCU Learning Ecoystems, an initiative designed to advance innovation across historically Black institutions.

Dr. Myles received his bachelor of fine arts degree from North Carolina A&T State University, a master’s degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech.

Edward L. Hill has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Voorhees University in Denmark, South Carolina.

Prior to his new role, Dr. Hill was provost of Talladega College, where he had a brief stint as interim president in 2024. Earlier in his tenure at Talladega, he was associate provost and vice president for strategic initiatives. An experienced HBCU professor and administrator, he has also served in various academic and strategic planning roles with Harris-Stowe State University in Missouri, Wilberforce University in Ohio, and Fort Valley State University in Georgia.

Dr. Hill is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he majored in elementary education. He holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Columbia College in South Carolina and a doctorate in educational leadership from South Carolina State University.
