J. Camille Hall has been named director of the School of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences in the McQueary College of Health and Human Services at Missouri State University. She previously spent 18 years on the faculty at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was the first Black woman to earn the rank of professor in the College of Social Work. More recently, she was vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Dr. Hall received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in social work from New Mexico State University. She holds a Ph.D. in social work from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Alicia Barnes is the inaugural Urban Child Institute Endowed Chair of Excellence for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. In this role, she will oversee clinical and research initiatives focused on early childhood mental illness and its associated risk factors. A faculty member since 2023, she previously served as associate director of the Center for Youth Advocacy and Well-Being.
Dr. Barnes received her bachelor’s degree in nutritional biological psychology from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, a master of public health degree in social and behavioral health from Temple University in Philadelphia, and a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Tyson Brown has been appointed director of the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. A Duke faculty member since 2016, he currently serves as a professor of sociology and associate professor in medicine. Using advanced data analytics and statistical methods, his research examines how structural racism causes health inequalities.
Dr. Brown received his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Florida. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Cynthia Crawford has been appointed associate dean for research and innovation for the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University. With nearly three decades of higher education experience, she most recently served as a faculty fellow and interim associate provost for research at California State University, San Bernardino.
Dr. Crawford holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Kentucky.
