Here is this week’s news of grants or gifts to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.
The United States Air Force has gifted three flight simulators to the aviation program at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Students enrolled in the HBCU’s aviation science and aerospace engineering programs will use the new technology to hone their flight skills and practice maneuvers in a safe environment.
The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African American Culture at Alabama State University has received a donation of 28 works of art by 24 artists from the National Alliance of Artists from Historically Black College and Universities. The original works will be featured on public display at the National Center through September 30 and remain a permanent addition to the center’s collection.
The F. D. Bluford Library at North Carolina A&T State University has received a $115,557 grant from the State Library of North Carolina to launch The Library Data Lab, a centrally located hub for advanced data analysis, support, and instruction for students of all majors. Faculty at the HBCU will also have the opportunity to leverage the lab’s tools to enhance their courses, as well as their own research endeavors.

he Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering has received a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to help over 20 undergraduate students participate in the Research Experience for Undergraduates summer program. With a focus on supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds, the 12-week program provides participating students with real-world research experience in advanced scientific fields, a $7,000 stipend, and faculty mentoring.
