Medgar Evers College to Provide Programs in Support of Black Homeownership in New York City

Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York System is stepping in to help advance Black homeownership in New York City, according to a recent article by Asar John of the BKReader.

In recent years, Black homeownership in New York City has plummeted, now at a current rate of just 31 percent. Many neighborhoods that were primarily Black communities for several decades have been subject to gentrification, resulting in a lack of affordable homes.

To help restore Black communities and advance economic opportunities for Black New Yorkers, the DuBois Bunche Public Policy Center at Medgar Evans College has announced it will provide 100 hours of public workshops focused on achieving financial stability. Additionally, the center will provide legal classes to help individuals fight foreclosure cases, lending schemes, and deed theft.

More information on the DuBois Bunche Public Policy Center’s resources and research can be found here.
