O. John Maduko to Lead the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System

O. John Maduko has been selected to serve as acting chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System (CSCU). He began his new role on July 1 and will serve as the system’s interim leader for a one-year term.

Dr. Maduko had been serving as president of Connecticut State Community College (CT State) – the largest community college in New England. Since assuming his presidency in June 2022, the community college has increased its student enrollment and retention rates, expanded scholarship opportunities, and enhanced its academic and workforce development programs. As Dr. Maduko transitions to his new role, an interim president will be appointed to lead CT State in his absence.

Before his current position, Dr. Maduko was vice president for academic and student affairs at Minnesota State Community and Technical College. He has served as an academic and administrative leader at both two-year and four-year institutions in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, and Georgia.

“CSCU’s public colleges and universities stand at a pivotal moment — one filled with both challenge and tremendous opportunity,” said Dr. Maduko. “Over the past three years, it has been a privilege to serve as president of CT State, working alongside dedicated and world class colleagues to center our mission on student success and community impact. I am deeply committed to collaborating with the board of regents, our institutional presidents, faculty and staff, the system office, state and municipal government officials, and our communities to chart a bold and unified path forward — one that places our students, and the communities we serve at the heart of every decision. Higher education must be a bridge to opportunity, equity, and lifelong transformation — and together, we must ensure those doors remain wide open to all.”

Dr. Maduko received his bachelor’s degree in biology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University in the Cayman Islands.
