Cecil Andrew Duffie has been named dean of the Chapel. He comes to Tuskegee from another HBCU, Wiley University in Marshall, Texas, where he was dean of the Julius S. Scott Sr. Chapel. As a scholar, he centers his research on spiritual formation and college and university Black chaplaincy in the twenty-first century.
Rev. Dr. Duffie is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he majored in telecommunications with a minor in education. He holds a master of divinity degree and Ph.D. from Howard University.
Brooke A. Burks has been appointed dean of the School of Education. With 25 years of experience, she most recently served as associate dean of the College of Education; chair of the department of curriculum, instruction, and technology; and chief diversity officer at Auburn University at Montgomery. Earlier in her career, she was a high school English teacher.
Dr. Burks is an alumna of Tuskegee, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in language arts education. She holds a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Auburn University.
Catherine Armwood has been appointed dean of the School of Architecture and Construction Science. Currently, she serves as associate dean of research and graduate studies at the College of Engineering at Tennessee State University in Nashville. Her engineering research focuses on masonry and cementitious structures and sustainability. She also studies methods to broaden participation in STEM, workforce development, service learning, and professional development for faculty and students.
Dr. Armwood holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from Tennessee State University and a Ph.D. in the same discipline from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
