Fort Valley State University Partners With Zoo Atlanta to Advance Research Opportunities for Students

Fort Valley State University in Georgia has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Zoo Atlanta to create new opportunities for students in the HBCU’s veterinary technology program.

Through this partnership, students at Fort Valley State with a minimum of 35 semester credits in their major and a GPA of 3.0 or higher can apply to the competitive program, which will be available during the university’s summer semester. Zoo Atlanta will select the final candidates and provide them with free housing in on-site apartments at the zoo’s Rollins Animal Health Center.

Students who are accepted into the program will gain hands-on clinical opportunities in a facility that houses more than 200 species, providing them with the necessary experience for careers working with exotic animals. Additionally, students will have access to the myriad of resources available at the newly constructed Rollins Animal Health Center, including state-of-the-art research equipment and laboratories.

“For nearly 130 years, Fort Valley State University has opened doors for students who dare to dream beyond limitations,” said Fort Valley State University President Paul Jones. “This groundbreaking partnership with Zoo Atlanta exemplifies our mission to integrate quality instruction with learning experiences that prepare students to lead in high-demand fields like veterinary medicine. Together, we’re not only making history — we’re building futures.”
