Melody Goodman has been promoted from interim dean to permanent dean of the School of Global Public Health at New York University.
A faculty member in biostatistics since 2017, Dr. Goodman previously served as the school’s senior executive vice dean, vice dean for research, and associate dean for research. She also had a stint as interim chair of the department of biostatistics. Before NYU, she held faculty appointments with the medical schools at Washington University in St. Louis and Stony Brook University in New York.
Through her public health research, Dr. Goodman aims to develop a more rigorous understanding of the social risk factors contributing to urban health outcomes, with a particular focus on improving health in high-risk populations. Bridging the gap between research and practice, her contributions have spanned the areas of prevention, treatment, intervention, and policy.
“It is an immense privilege to step into this role at a critical time for global public health, and as the school celebrates its tenth anniversary, building on nearly a century of public health teaching and scholarship at NYU,” said Dr. Goodman. “I am honored to continue working with our stellar faculty, staff, and students to improve the health of communities — locally and globally — and cultivate the next generation of public health leaders by equipping them with the tools to tackle complex health challenges and drive impactful change.”
Dr. Goodman is a summa cum laude graduate of Stony Brook University, where she studied economics, applied mathematics, and statistics. She earned her master’s degree and Ph.D. in biostatistics from Harvard University
