Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi, is set to launch its first-ever band program thanks to a recently signed an agreement and lifetime contract with Jacktown All Star Band LLC, according to a report from WLBT3.
Although the HBCU does not have a football team, Tougaloo’s new marching band will perform at other athletic games, school events, and parades. Additionally, the band plans to compete in both regional and national competitions.
Existing members of the Jacktown All Star Band will also benefit from the new partnership. As part of the agreement, members can apply to a “JAB Scholarship,” providing them with an affordable pathway to complete their college education at Tougaloo College.
“We are not just adding music to the campus – we are expanding the heartbeat of this institution,” said Latoya Haymer, transformation research officer at Tougaloo. “I am incredibly proud to be part of this momentous step forward to our students and community.”
