Tennessee State University to Construct New $50 Million Engineering Facility

Tennessee State University has recently received approval from the Tennessee State Building Commission to construct a $50 million engineering building.

Designed by Melvin Gill & Associates and Bauer Askew Architecture, in partnership with the TSU’s planning, design, and construction team, the nearly 70,000-square-foot building will serve as the home for the HBCU’s engineering programs, as well as the applied and industrial technology program. It will feature classrooms, computer labs, and over 30 teaching and research laboratories, including the Future Energy Lab, the Additive Manufacturing Lab, and the Drone Flight and Air Traffic Lab.

“The new building is a substantial investment in the College of Engineering,” said Dr. Lin Li, dean of the college. “Over the years, our college has experienced significant growth in students, faculty, research, and academic programs. This facility will provide a world-class space that enhances interdisciplinary collaboration across six undergraduate programs, three master’s programs, and one Ph.D. program. It will also host innovative engineering activities that directly benefit the metro Nashville area and Middle Tennessee.”

Construction is set to begin later this year, with completion slated for summer 2027.
