FAMU’s Areto Imoukhuede Receives National Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Education Law

Areto Imoukhuede, professor at the Florida A&M University College of Law, has received the Steven S. Goldberg Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Education Law from the Education Law Association for his article “The Walk Away from Racial Equality.”

Published in Northwestern University’s Journal of Law and Social Policy, the article examines how recent Supreme Court decisions have shifted away from Brown v. Board of Educations vision of racial equality toward a “liberal equality” framework reminiscent of Plessy v. Ferguson that treats superficially same treatment as equal treatment while overlooking the constitutional mandate to dismantle racial hierarchy.

A faculty member with historically Black Florida A&M University since 2021, Professor Imoukhuede teaches courses on constitutional theory, administrative law, and education law. His research centers on U.S. constitutional law issues, with a particular focus on education law and homeland security. Before his current role, he taught at Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law and the University of Illinois College of Law.

Professor Imoukhuede is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he majored in economics with a minor in political science. He holds a juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.
