Julius Crump was named the inaugural Rev. Raymon L. Pedersen Distinguished Professor in Social Change at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A faculty member since 2018, he currently serves as an assistant professor of religion, co-director of the Teaching Commons, and director of academic and faculty integration. Dr. Crump’s current research centers on African American political theories and philosophies of religion that use liberal thought as a basis for social ethics.
Dr. Crump holds a bachelor’s degree from Spalding University, a master of divinity degree from Southern Seminary, a master of theology degree from Louisville Seminary, and a third master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Allison McLarty is the new General Ting Feng Cheng Endowed Chair in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in New York. A faculty member since 1997, she specializes in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. She has held numerous leadership roles throughout her long tenure, including chief of thoracic surgery at the Northport VA Medical Center and associate program director for the general surgery residency program.
Dr. McLarty received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and her medical degree from Columbia University. She completed general surgery training at Columbia University and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
Tori Young has joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University in Nashville as an assistant professor of the practice in the department of human and organizational development. She is an expert in mental health therapy for children and families affected by abuse and trauma. In addition to her professional work as a therapist, she previously taught counseling courses at Columbia State University.
Dr. Young earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Tuskegee University, a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Troy University, and a Ph.D. in counselor education from Auburn University. All three educational institutions are in Alabama.

Dr. Bowdrie is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University, where she majored in communication sciences and psychology. She holds both a doctor of audiology degree and a Ph.D. in speech and hearing science from Ohio State University. Before her new appointment, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System.
