Historically Black Florida A&M University has announced a new innovative platform to promote philanthropic donations from alumni, students, parents, and FAMU supporters.
The FAMU Change app is a micro-donation service that allows users to give back to the HBCU through their everyday purchases. The app directly connects users to the FAMU Foundation by rounding up transactions to the nearest dollar and donating the spare change to FAMU initiatives.
According to the university, the app has significant potential to boost the HBCU’s fundraising and community engagement efforts. By their estimates, it would take just 4,000 active users to generate over $100,000 annually. Administrators at FAMU have set a goal of reaching 25,000 app downloads by the end of 2025.
“This isn’t just about giving — it’s about reconnecting with the FAMUly from across the country,” said President Marva Johnson. “Every coffee, every tank of gas — it all adds up to something bigger. Together, we’re building a stronger FAMU, one transaction at a time.”
