North Carolina A&T State University to Offer Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree Programs for Adult Learners

North Carolina A&T State University recently received approval from the University of North Carolina System to offer the HBCU’s first “Flight Path” online degree programs for adult learners.

Housed in the HBCU’s College of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the new programs, a bachelor of science in criminal justice and a bachelor of arts in liberal studies, were created in partnership with Project Kitty Hawk, a nonprofit affiliate of the UNC System that helps North Carolina’s public universities develop and launch online degree programs designed for adults past traditional college age. Students enrolled in the “Flight Path” programs participate in eight-week “mini-mesters,” giving them an expedited and cost-saving pathway to a college degree.

The criminal justice degree will provide students with a deep understanding of criminology and the justice system and prepare them for careers in government, the private sector, or advanced study. Students in this program will learn from instructors with expertise in law enforcement, cybersecurity, and forensic science.

Students enrolled in the liberal studies program will benefit from an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on developing strong critical and creative thinking skills. The degree emphasizes making connections across disciplines and applying knowledge in meaningful, real-world contexts.

Over the next 18 months, NCA&T and Project Kitty Hawk expect to launch five additional “Flight Path” programs, with a projected 4,000 students enrolling over the next five years.
