Virginia Union University and Townsend Press to Provide Research Publishing Opportunities for Students

Virginia Union University, a historically Black educational institution in Richmond, has announced a new partnership with Townsend Press that will provide all undergraduate and graduate students at the HBCU with opportunities to contribute to peer-reviewed scholarly publications.

Developed with support from the Sunday School Publishing Board, the new partnership will establish a university-wide publishing platform featuring students’ dissertations, research projects, and creative works. All undergraduate students at the HBCU will contribute to an official publication, while all graduate and doctoral students will graduate with a professionally published manuscript. The platform will also assist faculty members in publishing and disseminating their scholarship.

“This partnership transforms the academic experience at VUU,” said Hakim J. Lucas, president of Virginia Union University. “We are creating a pipeline of published scholars — empowering students to graduate with a competitive advantage and amplifying research rooted in faith, innovation, and community impact.”
