Paul A. Jones, the tenth president of historically Black Fort Valley State University in Georgia, recently announced his intent to retire at the end of June 2026, concluding 10 years of service and nearly four decades in higher education.
Dr. Jones began his tenure at Fort Valley State in 2016, following stints as interim president of Darton State University in Albany, Georgia, and of Georgia College and State University. Over the past 10 years, Dr. Jones has led Fort Valley State through a period of significant growth, including the largest student enrollment cohort since 2013, major infrastructure improvements, and expanded academic offerings.
“As I look toward the conclusion of my presidency, I do so with confidence in Fort Valley State’s future,” said Dr. Jones. “This confidence comes from knowing the strength of the people who sustain this institution and the clarity of the mission that continues to guide us. The foundation is strong. The mission is clear. The next chapter for our Wildcat community holds tremendous potential.”
Dr. Jones holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Utah State University. He earned a Ph.D. in education and human resource studies from Colorado State University.
