Alicia Moore was recently promoted to professor of education at Southwestern University, making her the university’s first African American woman to earn the rank of full professor. Dr. Moore has been a faculty member with Southwestern University for the past 24 years and currently teaches courses in early childhood education, special education, general education, and diversity.
Dr. Moore earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. She holds a master’s degree in education and a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Texas at Austin.
Musa Manga, assistant professor in the department of environmental sciences and engineering in the Global School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was appointed to one of the four inaugural Joan Heckler Gillings Endowed Professorships. His research uses environmental engineering and microbiology tools to identify low-cost, scalable, and sustainable ways to interrupt transmission of diseases from human waste to protect public health and well-being.
Dr. Manga is a graduate of Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, where he majored in construction management. He earned a master’s degree in environmental engineering and project management and a Ph.D. in civil engineering at the University of Leeds in England.
Guy Nave has been named to the Wilford A. Johnson Chair in Biblical Studies at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. A faculty member since 2010, he currently holds the rank of full professor of religion. He teaches a wide range of religion courses, including study abroad opportunities in South Africa, Ghana, and Costa Rica. As a scholar, his research centers on biblical studies; religion and social justice; the social construction of religious meaning; and the intersection of race, religion, and politics.
Dr. Nave earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and his master of divinity degree in biblical studies from Princeton Theological Seminary. He holds two additional master’s degrees and a Ph.D. all in New Testament studies from Yale University.
