Nikki Youngblood-Giles has been selected to serve as interim co-dean of Barnard College in New York City. In this role, she will oversee campus life and student experience at the liberal arts institution, along with her fellow interim co-dean, Holly Tedder. Both women currently serve as vice deans of the college.
Dr. Youngblood-Giles first joined Barnard College in 2008 as associate director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program. She has held a variety of roles throughout her tenure, including recent service as dean of Beyond Barnard, a program that provides lifelong support to students and graduates in the areas of career exploration and development, internships, graduate and professional school, and fellowships. As vice dean of the college, Dr. Youngblood-Giles oversees student life and residential life, as well as opportunity programs, student success, and international student services.
Dr. Youngblood-Giles earned her bachelor’s degree in child development from historically Black Spelman College in Atlanta and her master’s degree in curriculum and teaching from Columbia University’s Teachers College. She received her doctorate from New York University, where her research examined the experiences of students who identify as first-generation and low-income at elite institutions.
