Develop Fulton, the economic development authority in Fulton County, Georgia, has approved a $144 million investment to build a new student housing facility serving Morehouse College and Spelman College, two historically Black liberal arts educational institutions in Atlanta.
Located at 850 West End Avenue SW, the new 450,000 square-foot building will include some 290 residential units with 800 beds for students. The residence hall will also feature a community lounge, shared gathering spaces, a central green space, a rooftop terrace, a fitness center, and dedicated study areas. Additionally, the construction project will generate about 350 construction jobs and 14 permanent full-time positions.
“This investment underscores the essential role that modern, purpose-built student housing plays in student success and institutional excellence,” said Develop Fulton board chair Kwanza Hall. “By supporting housing that serves Morehouse and Spelman students, Develop Fulton is helping strengthen Atlanta’s higher education ecosystem while advancing economic opportunity, without placing additional burden on taxpayers.”
