Marjorie Shavers to Lead the Missouri State University College of Education

Marjorie Shavers has been selected to serve as interim dean of the College of Education at Missouri State University. She will begin her new role on July 1.

“I’m honored to serve as interim dean and work alongside the incredible faculty, staff, students, and community partners who make the College of Education such a special place,” said Dr. Shavers. “Together, we’ll continue preparing educators who make a lasting difference in the lives of students and the communities they serve.”

Since August 2023, Dr. Shavers has served as associate dean of the College of Education. In this role, she provides leadership for strategic initiatives, academic programs, faculty development, and external engagement. Her work has strengthened recruitment and retention efforts, expanded partnerships with K-12 school districts and community organizations, and elevated the college’s visibility and impact.

A Missouri State faculty member for the past five years, Dr. Shavers has served in other leadership roles with the college, including head of the counseling, leadership, and special education department and director of the School of Special Education, Leadership, and Professional Studies. Earlier in her career, she taught at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, and Morehead State University in Kentucky.

Dr. Shavers holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in community counseling, and a doctorate in counselor education, all from Ohio State University.
