James L. Moore III, the Distinguished Professor of Urban Education in the College of Education and Human Ecology at Ohio State University, recently received the Outstanding STEM Educator Award from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s STEM Education Consortium. The award honors Dr. Moore’s “remarkable contributions to STEM education through exceptional scholarship, mentoring, and teaching.”
An Ohio State faculty member for over two decades, Dr. Moore is currently on loan to the U.S. National Science Foundation, serving as the assistant director for its Directorate of STEM Education, where he provides oversight on an annual budget of $1 billion. Prior to this appointment, he was vice provost for diversity and inclusion and chief diversity officer at Ohio State and executive director of the university’s Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male. As a scholar, Dr. Moore has conducted extensive research on the experiences of African American men in both K-12 and higher education settings, as well as other societal domains.
An HBCU graduate, Dr. Moore earned his bachelor’s degree in English education from Delaware State University. He received both his master’s degree and Ph.D. in counselor education from Virginia Tech.
