Shaun Harper has been named president-elect of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). His presidency will officially begin in 2020.
Currently, Dr. Harper serves as a Provost Professor in the Rossier School of Education and Marshall School of Business, the Clifford and Betty Allen Chair in Urban Leadership, and the founder and executive director of the Race and Equity Center at the University of Southern California. As an academic, he studies racial, gender, and LGBT issues in corporations, law firms, Hollywood production companies, K-12 schools, and universities.
Prior to joining the USC faculty, Dr. Harper was assistant director of MBA admissions for the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He also spent a decade at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a tenured full professor. Dr. Harper is a past president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.
Dr. Harper is a graduate of Albany State University in Georgia where he majored in education. He holds a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs and a Ph.D. in higher education both from Indiana University.
