Nine African Americans Who Were Appointed to Administrative Posts in Higher Education

John B. Wilson has been appointed vice president and chief information officer at Spelman College in Atlanta. He was the director of enterprise information systems at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Earlier. Wilson served for 17 years as a senior manager of information technology at Emory University in Atlanta.

Wilson is a graduate of San Diego State University in California, where he majored in information and decision systems. He holds an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston.

Dana Bradley will be the inaugural chief people officer at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. When she begins her new job on September 3, Bradley will be responsible for all human resources functions as well as faculty and staff development programs. Bradley has been serving as associate vice president for human resources at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Bradley holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a master’s degree in speech communication, both from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She earned an MBA at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Na’Tashua R. Davis has been named interim vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity and equity at the University of Missouri. She was executive director of the Access & Leadership Development Unit at the university.

Dr. Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a master’s degree in college student personnel from Kansas State University. She earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri.

Joy Moore was named vice president for student affairs at Boston College. She has been the interim head of student affairs since August 2018. Earlier, Moore was associate vice president for college communications. She joined the staff at Boston College in 2011.

Moore is a 1981 graduate of Boston College, where she majored in education.

Kimberly Whitehead is the new chief of staff to University of Maine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy. For the past five years, Whitehead has been at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where she has served as interim associate vice president for academic affairs, vice provost for academic affairs, interim provost and vice president, and, most recently, program coordinator in the International Development Programs Office.

Dr. Whitehead is a graduate of Norfolk State University in Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in genetics from North Carolina State University.

Natasha H. Jeter was appointed assistant vice chancellor for wellness and student success at the University of Mississippi. She has been serving as assistant dean of health, wellness and prevention services at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

Dr. Jeter is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree from the University at North Carolina at Greensboro and a Ph.D. from Walden University.

Wade Manora Jr. was appointed assistant director of multicultural student affairs at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. He had been serving as an educational program specialist for TRIO  programs at Georgia State University.

Manora Holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Auburn University in Alabama. He is studying for an educational doctorate at the University of Georgia.

Devanon Fitzgerald is the new associate director of bands at Mississippi Valley State University. He was the band director at Whitehaven High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

Fitzgerald is a graduate of Tennessee State University in Nashville, where he majored in music education. He holds a master’s degree in curriculum, instruction and assessment from Walden University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in music education from the University of Florida.

Dana Willis-Henderson is the new Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital administrator at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Dr. Willis-Henderson previously served as medical director for Randall Road Animal Hospital of Crystal Lake in Illinois and Huntley Animal Care in Huntley, Illinois.

Dr. Willis-Henderson earned a doctor of veterinary medicine degree at Tuskegee University in 2002.

In Memoriam: Nathan Howard Cook, 1939-2024

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
