Roland Mitchell has been appointed dean of the College of Human Sciences and Education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He will begin his new duties on December 6.
Dr. Mitchell is the E.B “Ted” Robert Endowed Professor and has been serving as interim dean. Professor Mitchell joined the faculty at the university in 2005 and was named a full professor in 2018. He served as associate dean of research engagement & graduate studies from 2015-2018 and associate dean for research & academic services from 2016-2017.
Professor Mitchell’s research theorizes the impact of historical and communal knowledge on postsecondary education. He has co-authored seven books.
Dr. Mitchell received a bachelor’s degree in history from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. He holds a master’s degree in higher education from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and a Ph.D. in educational research from the University of Alabama.
