Morehouse College in Atlanta is the First Historically Black College to Field a Polo Team

Many historically Black colleges and universities have had great success in intercollegiate sports such as football, basketball, and track and field. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, a historically Black educational institution, has won three NCAA championships in women’s bowling, the second high number of championships in that sport in the nation.

Now, for the first time, a historically Black college or university is fielding a polo team. Morehouse College in Atlanta has announced that it has become a member of the United States Polo Association.

The college’s team will compete at the Atlanta Regional Polo Center. Only one member of the team has any prior experience with horses.
