Morehouse College in Atlanta has raised more than $260,000 to help students who have been finally impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The “Funds for Morehouse” campaign is helping students in need of financial support to continue their education without interruption. Donations are being used to cover the costs associated with housing, food, travel, and technology.
The funds are needed because many of our students are financial aid-eligible and reported that they were facing hardships covering the costs of moving and traveling home,” said Monique Dozier, Vice President of the Office of Institutional Advancement at Morehouse College. “More than 700 people made donations.”
Delaware State University started its Student Emergency Relief Fund on April 10. In the first 10 days, the university raised nearly $250,000. The Laffey-McHugh Foundation made a $100,000 gift to the fund.
Over 800 Delaware State University students have submitted applications for aid, totaling $650,000. In addition, The University’s Food Pantry has provided meals for dozens of students. More than 140 laptops and tablets have been loaned to students without adequate tech devices at home.
