Howard University and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island, signed a cooperative research and development agreement. The educational partnership agreement allows warfare center scientists and engineers to work with Howard faculty and students to enhance STEM education. New provisions also permit student participation in technology transfer and associated legal activities.
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center is a shore command of the U.S. Navy within the Naval Sea Systems Command, which engineers, builds, and supports America’s fleet of ships and combat systems. The center provides research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, undersea offensive and defensive weapons systems, and countermeasures associated with undersea warfare.
“This partnership between NUWC and Howard will be very beneficial for both our institutions,” said Anthony K. Wutoh, provost and chief academic officer of Howard University. “Howard students will gain real work experience before they enter the job market, and they will have an opportunity to secure employment prior to graduating. In addition, the influx of talent from Howard University will contribute greater diversity to a critical industry.”
