Three African American Men in New Athletic Administration Posts at Southern State Universities

Jason Cable has been hired as the director of intercollegiate athletics at Alabama State University in Montgomery. Dr. Cable has served as the senior associate commissioner for administration with the Southwestern Athletic Conference since December 2018.

Dr. Cable earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Alcorn State University in Mississippi. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Jackson State University in Mississippi.

Trayvean Scott is the new vice president for intercollegiate athletics at Grambling State University in Louisiana. Dr. Scott comes to Grambling State after spending 10 years at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was the deputy athletic director and was responsible for the daily operations of the university’s athletic programs.

Dr. Scott holds a bachelor’s degrees in marketing and management and a master’s degree in communications from Southern University. He completed his Ph.D. in education/sports management from Northcentral University.

Alvin Franklin was named assistant athletic director for development at Mississippi State University. He is the former assistant director of athletic development at the University of South Alabama.

Franklin is a graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi, where he majored in business administration. He holds a master’s degree in kinesiology and sports management from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Purdue University.
