The Alabama A&M University board of trustees approved an academic restructuring plan that eliminated six degree programs and added three others. The board also voted to raise tuition by 5 percent in a move expected to bring in an additional $1.6 million to offset cuts in state aid.
The board eliminated bachelor’s degree programs in animal science, business education, electrical engineering technology, and industrial technology. Master’s degree programs in agribusiness and industrial technology were also cut.
The board added bachelor’s degree programs in professional studies and entrepreneurship. There will be a new master’s degree program in communications.
