Florida A&M University in Tallahassee has reorganized its academic structure, splitting its College of Arts and Sciences into separate units. The new College of Science and Technology will include the departments of biology, chemistry, computer information systems, mathematics, and physics. The newly established College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities will include the departments of English, music, psychology, social work, sociology/criminal justice, visual arts, and history/political science/geography/Afro American studies. The Army ROTC program will also be housed in the College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities.
Maurice Edington was named interim dean of the College of Science and Technology. He has been on the university’s faculty since 1998.
Dr. Eddington is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville. He earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at Vanderbilt University.
Valencia Matthews was appointed interim dean of College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities. She has been serving as a full professor and assistant dean of the former College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Matthews is a graduate of South Carolina State University. She earned a master’s degree at Ohio State University and a doctorate from Florida State University.
