Four Universities Announce the Hiring of African Americans to Diversity Positions

Fatimah Conley is the new vice president of institutional equity and chief diversity officer at the University of Delaware. Since October 2020, she has been the acting chief diversity office at the university. She joined the university in 2015 as a staff member in the Office of the General Counsel.

Conley is a graduate of Fairleigh-Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. She holds a law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans and is currently pursuing an MBA at the Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware.

Jackie Hunter was named senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer for the University of Vermont Health Network. She has been serving as the leader of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for Banner Health in Arizona.

Dr. Hunter is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She earned a doctor of chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. She then became a doctor of naturopathic medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Hunter also holds a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Donovan Roy is the new vice dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion for the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He was assistant dean for diversity and inclusiveness at the Western Michigan University School of Medicine.

Dr. Roy holds a bachelor’s degree in human services counseling and a master’s degree in higher education counseling from Wayne State College in Nebraska. He received his doctoral degree in educational psychology from the University of Southern California.

Janice Hamlet was named associate vice provost for faculty mentoring and diversity at Nothern Illinois University. She is a professor of communication at the university and has served on the faculty for more than two decades.

Dr. Hamlet is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she majored in English and communications. She holds master’s degrees in journalism and education and a Ph.D. in education from Ohio State University.
