Master’s of Public Health Program at Charles Drew Receives Accreditation

The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles has announced that its master’s in public health program has received accreditation for five years from the Council on Education for Public Health. This is the program’s first accreditation review since its establishment in 2006. Since its inception, 61 students have completed the master’s of public health degree program.

“The urban public health program plays a key role at CDU and helps students address systemic and societal factors that impact health in our communities,” said Dr. David M. Carlisle, President of CDU. “We are thrilled to receive accreditation, which will enhance our one-of-a-kind program and help grow our faculty, student enrollment, and research efforts focused on reducing urban health disparities.”

      • Accreditation is retroactive then? Because, as it reads, it seems that it wasn’t accredited prior to this review. Just curious. Wouldn’t want folks getting degrees from unaccredited institutions.

        • Correct- accreditation is retroactive. Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation is in addition to WASC. CDU received CEPH accreditation upon their first application. CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health.
