Thelma Glass, who taught geography at Alabama State University in Montgomery for four decades has died at the age of 96. She was the last surviving member of the Women’s Political Council, which organized the Montgomery bus boycott of 1955-56, one of the most celebrated events of the civil rights movement.
President William H. Harris, president of Alabama State University, issued a statement which read, “The ASU family lost one of its crown jewels today. Mrs. Glass was the consummate educator, whose life was a shining example of service, courage, and commitment. She will be truly missed.”
